Captivating night view of the Milky Way galaxy over a calm ocean showcasing clear starry skies.

Sand and Stars

Willie walked along the beach with his grandfather. The city with its traffic and noise seemed so far away. He really enjoyed these walks. The feel of the sand between his toes gave him a deep sense of happiness. The beach stretched on for a mile or so. A morning walk here took care of daily exercise for Grandpa.

“Do you know,” his grandfather asked, “that there are more stars in the sky than there are grains of sand?”

“Really?” Willie replied. “You mean that there are more stars in the sky than there are grains of sand on this beach? That is so hard to imagine.”

“No,” his grandfather responded. “I mean there are more stars in the sky than there are grains of sand on all the beaches in the whole world.”

“What? That does not even sound possible. Is that true?”

His grandfather sat on the log of a fallen coconut tree. Willie was extremely attentive. In his mind, he thought of the grains of sand stuck on his bare feet. He looked at one end of the beach, then the other. He dug his heels into the sand. There were more grains of sand under his feet. More stars in the sky?

“But Pa, how do you know that?”

“I do a bit of reading and that is what the scientists say.”

Willie was confounded.

“Do you know who made the stars?”

“God, I think,” he replied.

“Yes,” his grandfather continued. “God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1), which means He made the beaches as well. He is even called the bright and morning star.” (Revelation 22:16)

“God was that powerful! More stars in the sky than grains of sand?”

“Not just was powerful, He is the same. He does not change. He is still powerful and will always be! You understand that the same God who made the heavens and the earth loves you, sent His Son to die for your sins and wants to live in your heart? This is a good time for you to open up your heart to Him.”

Willie had never really given serious thought about God. He was a distant being not really relevant to anything in his life. God and church were important for weddings, christenings and funerals.

His view was changing now. God living in his heart? The thought suddenly seemed exciting.

Willie and his grandfather prayed right there on the beach.

Reflection:

The same God who created the heavens and the earth loves you too, right where you are, right now and He wants to live in your heart. Who wouldn’t want to love and serve this all powerful God?

Say this simple prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank you for loving me. Thank you for dying for my sins. I love you and want to live for you the rest of my life. Amen.
