God, we’ve been here before
There’s something about the air
The way the road curves
The rustle of the trees
The ‘stop sign’ down the road
It’s something surreal
~
God, we’ve been here before
In this place, in a similar spot
Where I’m liking and claiming certain things
Almost demanding it, full-stop
~
God, we’ve been here before
There’s something about this road
The way the flowers blossom
The way the wind blows
~
We’ve been here before
Maybe not this exact spot
But there’s something so familiar
It’s actually, a lot
~
God, we’ve been here before
You and I
Me asking You for something, begging on my knees
Getting frustrated when you don’t answer, in a way that suits me
Me throwing tantrums, like a spoilt child
Screaming in desperation, “Mine, mine, mine!”
~
Been in a place of quiet solitude
In protest of the circumstances of life
Me eventually ‘coming to’
And deciding that You know what’s best for my life
~
God, we’ve been here before
So this time
I’ll trust and wait
And I won’t whine
I’ll dream, hope and desire
That it will only be Your will
To which I aspire, to which I aim
~
So, I’ll offer up my thanks and praise from now
Because as I recall from last time
From the beginning, You already worked it out
